July 18, 2009

2008 DWD Wisconsin a wash out! The dirt crew loved the flooded course but to pull off the relay amphibious team vehicles would be necessary due to the flooded drive routes and parking areas. This can’t happen again next year so start your planning!

Yo Dirt Runners,

We regret to inform the Dirt Running World that the August 9, 2008 Dances With Dirt, Devil's Lake Wisconsin will not take place until July 18, 2009 (Permit pending).

The park and all of Wisconsin has had a difficult time. Due to the amount of parking and trails used, and the impact to low and wet ground, the decision has been made to postpone this year's event, but ... We'll be back and ready to attack in '09!

All entered teams and Ultra runner's will be refunded ... but we want you back next year!

Thank you for your understanding,
Head Goat, Canadian Chick, Swamp Dog, Trail Dog, Malicious Megan and all the creeps and critters of the Dirt Crew

Devils Lake Set To Reopen - By: Jennifer McBride / News Republic

With the help of volunteers and Department of Natural Resources workers from across the state, Devil's Lake State Park is going to reopen Thursday after flooding demolished roads, trails and messed up the sewage system.

The park closed June 13 after heavy rains wreaked havoc on the entire county. The gates reopen at 6 a.m. Thursday, though areas of the park will still be off-limits to visitors. Employees and volunteers were busy Tuesday working on the East and West bluff rescue roads in case someone is injured and park staff needs access to them, acting park Superintendent Steve Schmelzer said.

After the rain, there was damage and flooding to the roads, camp sites and trails. The park's sewer system was down, Schmelzer said, and some of the buildings were flooded. Click here to read the rest of the article...
